Chapter 12
Angela
__________
Mac shuts the car door behind me and we walk up to the large plantation home where the alpha and his mate reside. Iâm groggy and just want to go back to sleep, but I can also smell the food theyâve been cooking and thatâs slowly perking me up.
âMaâam? Weâre going to head down to your new home and leave your luggage in the sitting room. Weâll be back shortly.â Russell nods his head and heads back to the SUV and they drive off. I have no idea what the area looks like, or what the heck is going on since I slept through the drive. All I can see around me are rolling hills, paved roads, children playing in their yards and parents sitting on their porches sipping from glasses and laughing. The sun had gone down hours ago, but with the solar lights dotting the street and my night vision thanks to my wolf, I can see pretty clearly. I wonder why theyâre all up so late.
Iâm used to being up in the mountains, the fresh air and crisp forest scents. Here thereâs still a forested area, but not highly elevated from what I can tell. Plenty of large homes occupy this street, I wish I saw the town as we drove through.
âSo⦠I guess we just walk up and knock?â Ella questions and shrugs as she jogs up the handful of steps and does just that. I chuckle, pulling Mac along behind me as we step up behind her. I look up to his face and blink at him as he just smiles, staring around in awe.
This. This is what heâs always wanted, I think. A big ass family that all lives together and a real home. Not cabins that are so far apart you donât see your neighbors. Barely ever any pups around, and only a pack meeting when the alpha feels like it.
âCome in, come in! You must be Ella Daniels. Iâm Margaret York, alpha mate. Supper just got served.â She ushers us through the open, warm home and I just follow the scents of seared meat and sautéed vegetables. My mouth is watering.
The alpha mate will get along with Ella swimmingly. Both are bubbly, smiling, and dressed almost identically. Margaret has long brown hair, bright hazel eyes, and is dressed in a modest light pink sundress with long sleeves. She looks around the same age as Ella, so sheâs at least thirty⦠Shifter years are odd. Depending on your dominance and strength, we can technically live forever in better conditions, from what I learned in the Boise Pack as a child. Well, at least thatâs what the pack doctor there thought. Ever since the fae abandoned us here, weâve been getting weaker and aging quicker than ever.
She points out where we should sit around their large, wooden table and I glance around and my eyes widen as I stare out the windows. Thereâs a lake behind the house and I am itching to go swimming.
